    Terms of Reference (TOR) for a designer  

    1. Background

    DRC has been operational in Somalia since 1998 and is currently among the largest international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) in the country, with country-wide programmes implemented through six main offices and nine sub-offices in South Central Somalia, Somaliland, Puntland and Galmudug regions. Somalia is vulnerable to extreme weather patterns and remains in a protection crisis where armed conflict, insecurity and natural disasters trigger the displacement of thousands of people.

    2. Objective

    Danish Refugee Council Somalia looks for consultants/professional designers who can offer top-notch graphic design services to assist DRC in fulfilling our visibility and communications needs through innovative designs and high-quality products following DRC and donors’ visibility guidelines.

    3. Duties and Responsibilities

    The Consultant will be required to share work plan indicating how the objectives of the project will be achieved, and the support required from DRC.

     

    ·         Collaborate with DRC team to conceptualize and design print and digital materials such as reports, brochures, fact sheets, infographics, social media graphic, posters and banners, information and education material, etc.

    ·         Develop creative concepts and layouts that effectively communicate DRC's work and key messages.

    ·         Ensure all design work aligns with DRC's and donors’ brand guidelines and visual identity.

    ·         Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.

    ·         Assisting with the design and formatting of publications, digital documents and other printed materials.

    ·         Providing creative input and design solutions for DRC’s campaigns and events.

    ·         Manage projects from concept to completion, including gathering requirements, developing drafts, incorporating feedback, and finalizing designs for production.

    ·         Ensure all design materials are delivered on time and meet high-quality stasndards.

     

    4. Expected Deliverables

    Design concepts and final materials for a variety of programmatic, communication and visibility projects, as requested by DRC team.

     

    Final design files and assets in the required formats for production and distribution.

     

    Depending of the exact needs communicated by DRC and the assignment could follow the following timeframe:

    The Consultant will provide the documentation per email and material for review will be shared through we transfer, final approved versions on USB stick.

    5. Duration, timeline, and payment

    The total expected duration to complete the assignment will be no more than 6 working days, the assignment will be on a need basis and DRC will raise a service contract. The payment will be done after successful completion of the service and certified by the DRC communication or relevant programmatic department.

     

    The consultant shall be prepared to complete the assignment as soon as possible once contacted.

     

    Payment will be made after 100% Completion of the service deliverables and certification by DRC Communication or relevant Programmatic team of satisfactory completion. Payment shall be made within 14 days of receipt of Invoice by DRC and service completion certification.

      6. Proposed Composition of Team

    7. Eligibility, qualification, and experience required

    Eligibility:

    The consultant has the authorisation to work in Somalia.

    Skills and Qualifications

    Qualification:

    A certificate, diploma or degree in design or in a related field is an added value.

    Experience:

    A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in design.

     

    ·         Previous experience working with humanitarian organizations or non-profits.

    ·         Strong portfolio showcasing expertise in graphic design and branding.

    ·         Proficiency in design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite.

    ·         Strong attention to detail, creativity, and ability to work independently and meet deadlines

    ·         Excellent communication skills and professionalism.

     

    Language requirements:

    ·         Written and spoken fluency in Somali and English

     

    7. Technical supervision

    The Consultant will provide her/his own computer, software’s and all the necessary equipment. The Consultant will also be responsible and organize its transportation for in person meetings with DRC staff. DRC will only provide technical guidance. 

    The selected consultant will work under the supervision of:

    ·         Humanitarian Policy Advisor and Communications Officer for external communications and visibility projects;

    ·         Relevant programmatic staff for information and education material or any other programmatic material.

     

    8. Estimated Number and Value of Services:

    The total number of assignments over the next one year is estimated at 4.
