Position: Women’s Rights and Protection Coordinator
ActionAid International Somaliland (AAIS) is looking for a committed and inspirational Women’s Rights and Protection Coordinator who combines passion for social justice with proven experience in quality delivery of Women’s rights and protection programming.
The Role:
The Women’s Right and Protection Coordinator will be responsible for providing overall leadership, guidance, management, coordination, and technical support to ActionAid’s programming on women’s right and protection in Somaliland. S/he will lead our efforts to meet protection needs of people affected by conflicts, natural/man-made disasters, reducing risk of gender-based violence, and mainstreaming protection throughout the ActionAid response. S/he will be the responsible for overseeing the effective implementation of key organizational policies including but not limited to Sexual Harassment, Exploitation and Abuse (SHEA) at work policy, Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) and overarching Safeguarding policies to ensure safe programming at all levels of operation.
Skills and qualifications
Qualification & Experience
Education, experience & technical competencies.
1. Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, or other relevant areas.
2. Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in women rights and protection programme and working with INGO/NNGO.
3. At least three years’ experience of leading national level advocacy and campaigns for women’s rights/protection.
4. In depth knowledge of current debates and thinking on women’s rights and protection in disaster and conflict prone situations.
5. Familiarity with the women’s rights and protection related challenges in the country.
6. Excellent analytical and strategic planning skills.
7. Good contacts and relationships with women’s rights and protection networks and movements.
8. Experience in leading advocacy, research, monitoring and campaigns.
9. Proven record in spokesperson and proficiency in dealing with media.
10. Knowledge on project management cycle.
11. Strong community development skills.
12. Knowledge of MS Office suites.
13. Effective time management, conflict management and negotiation skills.
14. Experience in Risk Orientation.
15. Strong capacity building and training skills.
16. Proficiency in spoken and written English and Somali.
17. Proven track record of coaching and mentoring skills.
18. Desirable knowledge of and experience in Human Rights Based Approach (HRBA).
19. Knowledge in feminist leadership principles and approaches is desirable.
