    TITLE: Gender Coordinator – GAASHAAN Project

    TEAM: Program Operations

    LOCATION: Mogadishu

    GRADE: NAT 3

    CONTRACT LENGTH: 1 year

    CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

    Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

    ROLE PURPOSE:

    The Gender Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the integration of gender and disability considerations in the Gaashaan project. This role involves overseeing the execution of activities related to gender, collaborating with the project coordinator, consortium lead , conducting analyses and consultations on gender equality, ensuring that the Gaashaan project addresses GBV effectively, facilitating capacity-building exercises and training sessions on gender response and to ensure compliance are meet through community awareness, capacity building training, conduct project risk assessment and facilitate on the development of friendly materials. The Gender Coordinator will also be responsible on assisting to implement safe program activities, establishing local reporting procedures, reporting, data management and share learnings.

    SCOPE OF ROLE:

    KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

    Programme Implementation and Monitoring

           Conduct gender capacity assessment and build staff capacity through trainings and providing job embedded support (coaching, mentoring, experience sharing etc.)

     

           Assess, identify and address the gender biases affecting women, girls, boys and men differently to have safe and equitable participation and benefit in collaboration with project staff

     

           Develop agree on actions to address priority gaps on gender with the program manager, project coordinator, consortium lead, senior management team, and sector thematic experts, support and follow up implementation

     

           Coordinate and involve in facilitating advocacy and campaigning events organized to address gender inequalities and discriminatory perceptions, attitudes and practices

     

           Identify, adopt community based behavioural change and positive gender norm development interventions and promote strategies/ approaches ensure men and boys engagement in child safeguarding

     

           Assess quarterly and periodically the progress towards gender integration and transformative result, communicate with project leads

     

           Provide leadership in planning, implementation and monitoring of gender focused strategies and interventions

     

           Lead the collection, analysis and utilization of information from a broad range of sources to ensure effective integration of gender concerns document best practices of the project

    in implementing gender and youth components for learning with partners and relevant staff

           Prepare monthly gender related activity report and share with CP & CRG program Manager.

     

           Assist and involve in design and production of Gender IEC materials; audio and video spot messages to be used for advocacy community dialogue/awareness session on behavioural change

    Internal and External Engagements

           Facilitate establishment / strengthening of existing gender networks/plat forums for joint and sustained promotion of gender equality

           Maintain strategic links with key duty bearers and stakeholders such as governmental bodies, UN agencies, INGOs, and other local NGOs and community organizations; identify opportunities and ensure Save the Children's participation in key activities at the national and local level;

     

           As assigned by the CP & CRG Program Manager represent Save the Children and actively engage in relevant GBV working group & Protection cluster meetings

     

           Work with the Gaashaan project team, Advocacy, Communication, campaigns, Media ( ACCM) and the Gender Technical Specialist to clearly articulate advocacy messages for the Gaashaan project

     

           Work closely with the Project Coordinator, CP & CRG Program Manager, consortium lead, technical advisors to prepare timely and high-quality quarterly narrative reports

    MEAL

           Participate actively in designing and conducting gender specific and sectoral surveys, assessments, formative and researches to ensure consideration of gender dimensions, collection of sex and age disaggregated data, gender responsive data analysis and reporting

     

           Support in organizing and facilitating and project level knowledge sharing events

     

           Effectively support teams in MEAL aspects, which include assessments, baseline and evaluation studies, putting in place a functional Activity Tracking Table.

     

           Collecting and managing GBV complaints and feedback in close coordination with MEAL team and child protection team

     

           Ensure regular monitoring of projects results, documentation of projects case studies, lessons learnt, significant changes and best practices and coordinating learning and reflection meetings/sessions

     

           Ensure an effective programs/ projects monitoring and evaluation systems is in place.

    Safeguarding

     

           Liaise with Safeguarding focal points in conducting safeguarding risk assessment and develop a mitigation plan when needed and provide ongoing, age-appropriate verbal or written information on Save the Children’s Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct to all project stakeholders.

     

           Responsible for ensuring new staff, partners and volunteers undertake safeguarding induction and refresher training and strive to ensure that project delivery is carried out with the highest standards of Safe Programming.

    Skills and Qualifications

    Bachelor degree or qualification in Gender, Social Science and other related relevant fields

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

           4 years’ experience in a Project Management, budget management, staff management,

     

    Project Coordinator or similar role Previous experience in an office administration, Project Coordinator or similar role, preferably in Gender.

     

           Experience in working South and central somalia, understanding humanitarian Context

     

           Experience of planning and organising meetings and events, with a strong attention to detail

     

           Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

     

           Strong planning/anticipation skills. Experience of planning and organising meetings and events, with attention to detail

     

           Sound judgement and an ability to effectively prioritise multiple tasks in a constantly changing environment

     

           Ability to adopt a pro-active approach and offer solutions as appropriate

     

           Strong written and oral communication skills, fluent in English, with an eye for detail

     

           Ability to liaise and communicate effectively with a broad range of people at all levels, across different cultures and to act with credibility, discretion, tact and diplomacy both within and without the organisation

     

           Ability to work to tight deadlines with strong attention to detail

     

           Maintain a calm disposition and positive outlook particularly when working under pressure
