Job description

Accept International is an international NGO established in 2011, whose headquarters is located in Tokyo, Japan. The organization has been operating in Somalia, Yemen, Kenya, and Indonesia, and working on youth empowerment and peacebuilding initiatives in collaboration with various local stakeholders to break the chain of violence and realize sustaining peace in the world.

In Kenya, we have implemented a number of projects of youth empowerment including income generation and rehabilitation of gangs and inmates in Nairobi, Mombasa, Turkana, Garissa and Mandera. Through comprehensive programs, such as counseling, entrepreneurship programs, life skills training, and dialogue sessions, we have enabled many vulnerable youth to achieve economic and social independence, and to develop their resilience against violence and radicalization.

As Accept International intends to extend rehabilitation and reintegration programs of inmates in Kenya, we seek motivated and qualified Kenyan candidates for one (1) Program Coordinator.

*A candidate is going to be put on a probationary period for three months and will be evaluated on his/her performance closely by the headquarters of Accept International.

Work Location
Nairobi, Kenya

*You may be scheduled for a one-week business trip to other areas in Kenya where the relevant stakeholders are located.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and assist rehabilitation programs for inmates and released ex-inmates as well as training for prison officers in several areas in Kenya.
  • Implement other necessary programs and activities, such as youth empowerment support and needs interviews for expected beneficiaries, to realize Accept International's purpose and missions in Kenya.
  • Establish a cooperative relationship with governmental agencies and various stakeholders, including relevant public authorities and local NGOs, to advance the project effectively.
  • Communicate and negotiate with local partners and prepare for meetings and documentation.
  • Report the progress of tasks daily to a Japanese expat and Accept International headquarters.
  • Facilitate logistical arrangements for project activities and business trips, including collecting quotations/receipts and recording expenses for project accounting.
  • Write a project proposal
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and qualifications

  • Swahili proficiency: Native
  • English proficiency: Fluent (business level)
  • Able to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and Google (Drive, Docs, Spreadsheets, Slides) applications.
  • Able to use Gmail, Zoom, and other social media to communicate with local partners as well as Accept International headquarters.
  • Prepare and use the candidate’s own computer that can install Microsoft Office and other relevant applications.
  • Maintain timely and smooth communication with Accept International headquarters to manage the project remotely.
  • Maintain punctuality with respect to task deadlines and stakeholder appointments, and manage tasks by prioritizing and juggling multiple tasks.
  • Respect and comply with the working conditions established by Accept International as an international standard.
  • Be able to manage several tasks well and proceed with them simultaneously

Desirable

  • Highly motivated and responsible for the duties.
  • Capable of thinking and suggesting on one's own to achieve project goals, rather than just performing tasks as directed.
  • Work experience (particularly experiences in international organizations and NGOs) and academic background in relevant fields (Development, Peacebuilding, and P/CVE).
  • Experience of accounting
  • Somali profeciency
  • Understanding on Islamic religious values
  • Experience of proposal writing

Salary
Around 800 USD

*The amount of salary will be determined based on the candidates’ ability and experience.
